This study aims to describe the religious character of sixth-grade students and explore their perceptions, along with those of the Catholic Religion teacher, regarding the role of spiritual pilgrimage activities in the development of religious character at SD Negeri 08 Cupang Gading, Sekadau Hulu. This research employed a qualitative approach through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that students demonstrate good religious character, as seen in their habits of praying before and after class, showing respect to teachers, and actively participating in religious education lessons. The spiritual pilgrimage activity provides a meaningful religious experience that reinforces students' spiritual values. Students reported feeling happy, peaceful, and inspired through shared prayers, scripture reflection, and interaction with nature and peers. Teachers affirmed that the pilgrimage effectively shapes religious values through contextual and experiential learning. These results support theories of experiential learning and character education, which emphasize that direct experiences significantly influence the formation of students’ values and attitudes. Therefore, spiritual pilgrimage activities are recommended as a strategic component in developing religious character in primary school education.
Rosalia ItaMartinus MartinusHemma Gregorius Tinenti

https://journal.stpreinhalarantuka.ac.id/japb/article/view/540

This study examines the concept of divinity within the Lefa Nuang tradition practised by the Lamalera community in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This tradition is a ritual marking the opening of the fishing season which not only holds cultural significance but also possesses a strong religious dimension through the integration of local customs and the Catholic faith. The focus of this study is to explore how the Lamalera community understands and actualises the concept of divinity within the practice of lefa nuang. The methods employed include a literature review using a qualitative approach, as well as interviews with community leaders. The research findings indicate that the Lamalera community views God as the ruler of the sea, the provider of sustenance, and the sustainer of life, present within a harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and ancestors. Furthermore, there is a harmony between traditional rites and Church liturgy that strengthens the community’s religious consciousness. This tradition also embodies theological and social values such as solidarity, dependence on divine providence, and responsibility towards nature. Therefore, the lefa nuang tradition can be understood as an expression of contextual faith that sustains the relationship between God, humanity, and creation within the life of the Lamalera community.

Theodorus Trichinas Payong LewarMarselinus Kalang Lelaona Ronaldino Klaudius Terong Agus Widodo

https://journal.stpreinhalarantuka.ac.id/japb/article/view/545

This article focuses on the role of the Church in the salvation of humanity according to the thought of Armada Riyanto and its implications for the autonomy and dignity of the Papuan people, with the aim of formulating a relational, dialogical and contextual ecclesiological-soteriological framework for the empowerment of the Papuan people. This research employs a qualitative literature review method, examining Armada’s works on the philosophy of relationality, interfaith dialogue, the Church in context, and the dialogical-negotiative society, which are then critically analysed in relation to theological reflections on Papuan churches and their practices amidst globalisation and the struggle for autonomy. The article’s new findings are as follows: firstly, that Armada’s understanding of salvation presupposes the Church as a dialogical-participatory community that realises salvation through liberation from all forms of violence, domination, and dehumanisation, thereby theologically demanding a commitment to the restoration of the dignity of the Papuan people. Secondly, the autonomy and dignity of the Papuan people are interpreted as a soteriological process carried out by the Church through critical faith education, social accompaniment, and transformative dialogue, rather than merely a political issue; thus, the Church is called to transform itself into a “self-reliant and dignified Papuan Church” as a free, responsible, and open historical subject engaged in dialogue with the State and various global powers.
Yohanes Emanuel Tange

https://journal.stpreinhalarantuka.ac.id/japb/article/view/549

Learning activity is one of the important factors that support the success of the learning process because it influences student participation and understanding. However, in Church History learning in class XI A SMAK St. Yakobus Rasul Lewoleba, the level of student activity is still relatively low, which is seen from the lack of involvement in asking, answering questions, and expressing opinions. This study aims to improve student learning activity through the application of the Talking Stick method. The study was conducted at SMAK St. Yakobus Rasul Lewoleba using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach consisting of two cycles, namely planning, implementing actions, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were all 19 students of class XI A at SMAK St. Yakobus Rasul Lewoleba. Data were collected through observation and documentation, then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the application of the Talking Stick method can improve student learning activity, which is characterized by increased courage in answering questions, expressing opinions, and actively participating in discussions during the learning process.
Petronela PeniYosep Belen Keban Herman Lorenzo Bura
